The 2018 Donate Life Transplant Games will take place Aug. 2-7, 2018, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Members of Team Illinois from all across the state will be there to help raise awareness about the importance of becoming a registered organ, bone marrow, blood, cornea and tissue donor.
Over the years, the Transplant Games has grown into an event that brings together transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, and supporters of all ages. In 2016 more than 6,000 participants from 40 states traveled to Cleveland to celebrate the gift of life. Athletes -- all transplant recipients -- competed in swimming, basketball, volleyball and track and field as well as less strenuous activities like ballroom dancing, corn hole, and a trivia challenge.
All registered team members and supporters can attend special events throughout the week, including a 5K race/walk, family events, donor tributes, seminars and workshops. There’s even a TGA Village with exhibits, vendor booths and kids’ activities – as well as opening and closing ceremonies.
For members of Team Illinois and other TGA teams across the country, the Donate Life Transplant Games of America serve as a symbol of remembrance, appreciation, and celebration of the organ, eye, and tissue donors and donor families who selflessly made the decision to give the gift of life.
